Packages
--------

A precompiled FreeBSD package for x86 systems can be installed from sources,
including CD-ROM, the FreeBSD FTP server and its mirrors. To install from the
main FreeBSD FTP server:

  # pkg_add -r ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/ports/packages/ftp/proftpd-1.2.8.tgz

Note that 1.2.8 is the current package version and is based on the current
version of the FreeBSD ProFTPD port (ftp/proftpd).  As the port is updated to a
newer version, the corresponding package will be updated.

Versions for Alpha and Sparc64 systems are avaialble in their respective
directories on the FTP site, ports/alpha and ports/sparc64.

Bugs
----

FreeBSD releases 2.0 through 3.3-RELEASE have a libc bug with setpassent().
If you know that you have a fixed libc you can use the configure command line
option '--enable-force-setpassent' to use it with one of these fixed releases,
otherwise ProFTPD will use its internal persistent password support.  If you
would like more information, this bug is described in FreeBSD PR #14201.
